Social Effects
One of the main social problems for China is that, for every 100 girls there are 152 males that are second children. This has caused a huge impact to China. To add on to these negative affects, in 1982, there were 5 million sterilizations to women. By 1983, there was over 21 million. And in 1981 there were 8.7 million abortions, and by 1983, there were 14.4. As of now, China's fertilization rate is about 1.4 but living space is getting more expensive. In the United States, each female has about 2 children. Now, only about 1 in 5 men can find a bride. Many people are hoping the policy will be relaxed in the near future. Just 20% of women are sexually active before marriage in China. Of those, 91% are forced to have abortions.

Since the policy has been put in place, many people are having more male children and stop having females. This is causing there to be an uneven amount of males to females. This is causing many problems in their society as well. Men have a much harder time finding spouses, and parents are having less children to take care of them and continue there family as they age.
